Happy September! Your children are amazing and have adjusted so quickly to being Brown Bears. I cannot believe they know and recognize so many letters and numbers. Most can write their names on their own already too! This makes us so excited for our school year and how ready they are to expand their minds. Your child signs in every morning by tracing their name, to help keep them in practice. The weekly themes are explored through art and science. Preschool math is a daily occurrence during circle time and all the teaching moments in between. Reading is throughout the day.

We start the month with the theme of “My Family.” Please provide a family photo we can keep up on our Brown Bear Family Tree all school year. The photo doesn’t need to be fancy. If you don’t have a printer let me know, we can help print it for you.
The second week is “Where We Live.” We’ll learn about cities, our state, our country, our Earth.

Our class will spend the last 2 weeks focused on all things Fall/Autumn. There is so much to learn and observe about this new upcoming season.

FYI, the classroom gets chilly even on hot days, you may want to provide a sweater/hoodie for your child.

Reading is the most important activity to do with your child to help them be successful. Point to words or letters, to familiarize and recognize. Start by having them find the first letter in their name on each page. Ask questions as you read for comprehension. Visit the library, get them their own library card. Let them choose the books. If they are interested they’ll have a longer attention span. Keep it fun! Use silly voices for each character. There are many ways to build a love of reading. 

Quick reminders; Sunset Academy is closed Monday, September 5, for Labor Day,the 2nd Friday of every month we close at 4:00, for Teacher Trainings. 

Thank You for all you do. We appreciate your child arriving by 8:30 to have a chance to explore the theme related activities. Also for providing a healthy morning snack. Please don’t hesitate with any questions or concerns. Procare makes it easy to communicate.
