April 2026- Brown Bears

Welcome to Spring Brown Bears! It’s finally April and we will now be able to enjoy this beautiful warm weather. The unit theme for this month is plants and gardens. We’ll learn about the plant cycle and grow some things of our own! While exploring this concept we’ll make connections to what people need in order to grow. We’ll discuss how we can make a positive impact on our environment and the people around us.

Theme: Plants & Gardens

Letters: O, P, Q

Numbers: 20-30

Social Emotional: What does the word “nurture” mean? What do humans need to grow?

Brown Bear Garden

The Brown Bears classroom will be making a garden and creating some plant starters!

I ask that each Brown Bear bring one small clay pot on April 17th to paint and put seeds in (:

Plant Donation

I’d love to add more potted plants to the classroom. If you feel inclined, you can donate a non toxic plant to add to our garden center or as decor in other parts of the classroom. The students will participate in watering the plants and checking their soil + leaves.

Happy Birthday!

REMINDERS

*** As the weather starts to warm up please bring your Brown Bear in appropriate clothes for warmer weather (shorts, tank tops, short sleeved shirts etc). Bringing your child in long sleeved shirts and pants when it’s warm can increase their chances of heat exhaustion. Let’s work together to keep the kiddos safe and healthy!

That being said please also take some time to exchange the extra clothes in the student’s cubbies with clothing appropriate for spring and summer.

*** For students wearing dresses, please have shorts under their dress so they can play more comfortably.

*** Breakfast is from 9:00AM – 9:30AM although typically they’re all done eating by 9:20AM and we start clean up at 9:25AM. If you plan for your kiddo to have breakfast at school please make sure to bring them in by 9:00AM so they have enough time to eat their food and converse with their classmates. 10-5 minutes is not enough time for a child to eat!

Garden Party (May 1st, 3-4PM)

What better way to enjoy plants than on your own plate? May 1st I will be hosting a garden party from 3-4PM and encourage you to attend! Each student can bring 2 guests. I’m hoping we’ll be able to enjoy this party out on the field so make sure to bring a picnic blanket to sit on! In case of bad weather we’ll have to come inside or reschedule.

I will have a sign up sheet for guests and food items up shortly! Sign up is required in order to attend and it also helps me plan accordingly. (:

GRADUATION

Graduation is on May 22nd! That being said if your Brown Bear is leaving Sunset Academy and starting kindergarten in August please let me know as soon as possible, you can let me know in person or via Procare. I will begin prepping for graduation starting this month and want to make sure everything is planned properly and in a timely fashion.

Thank you! (:
