Brown Bears Newsletter: June 2022

Wow June already? May flew by, but there was much knowledge gained. Hatching butterflies was a highlight for us all. We hope Mother’s day and Memorial Day gave you a chance to slow down and enjoy making some new memories.

We can’t thank you enough for the many wonderful gifts during Teacher Appreciation Week! Ms Kylyn and I definitely felt the love.

We will start the month with the continuation of focusing on memories, after celebrating a day off for Memorial Day. As your child illustrates and dictates some of their favorite, we will help them understand a memory is in the past that actually happened.

The class will move onto making books. Reading with comprehension is huge for their success in school and into adulthood. They will be able to read these books to you by looking at the picture and using the corresponding word. Letter sound and recognition which we have been working on will help them gain confidence in this area. If your child struggles in this area help them while you read to them. Ask your child to point out a specific letter on each page, eventually ask them to point out simple words, as, is, in, it, and etc. Ask how, what, where, when, why questions during story, define bigger words. Driving is also an opportunity to have them point at words, letters, or numbers on buildings and signs. Don’t forget to utilize Longmont Library’s summer reading program and free books for 4 year olds.

The 3rd week of June will be spent preparing for Father’s Day, while acknowledging all the species of fathers on our planet.

1st day of Summer is June 21 we will have a silly week on the Lazy, Crazy Days of Summer for a fun theme.

The last week is about USA and celebrating our country for the upcoming 4th of July celebration. How many stars and stripes on our flag and why will be answered and why are we even celebrating this holiday?

Looking forward to “Splash Days” we’ll let you know when the weather stays consistent which week day will be our day every week during summer. FYI Your child will need a separate reusable cloth bag for their wet suits, towels and water shoes. Please have them arrive sunscreened in their suit, water shoes, provide a towel. Reusable bag can hold a complete change of school clothes and dry shoes which they’ll then replace with wet items. Stay tuned!

Remember close toed shoes during summer months too for safety measures on playground, also nothing worse than a bee sting on a toe or foot while running through the field. It has happened more than once. Also please make sure your daughter wears shorts under her dress for cleanliness and preventing unwanted sneak peaks.

Thank you for all you do. We appreciate every one of you! Enjoy the moments, they grow fast.
