Panda One Newsletter: October 2020

Hi, Mr. James.  Trying this again.

Dear Panda One Families,

Happy Harvest!  The dog days of summer are officially over: school is back in session, the temperatures outdoors beginning to decrease, and the leaves on the trees have started to change color.  Welcome fall!  After being classroom-bound for days on end due to poor air quality and scorching temperatures, we are hopeful that the heat will subside and the air quality will improve enough for us to get back outdoors.

Friendly Reminders

Sunset Academy is no longer providing a morning snack for the children – we kindly ask that you provide a healthy snack for your child to enjoy during AM snack time, which is at 9:00AM.

For those of you who placed orders for (or otherwise participated in) the fundraiser, we would like to remind you that payments and order forms must be submitted no later than Friday, October 9th to ensure delivery of items before the holidays.  Thank you in advance for your support, it is greatly appreciated!

Upcoming Events

Parent-Teacher Conferences – Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Friday, October 23rd.  A sign-up sheet will be posted near the tablets in the lobby the week beginning Monday, October 12th.  Miss Becka will be available for in-person, socially-distanced conferencing outdoors (weather permitting), or via the telephone – please indicate your preference on the sign-up sheet.  If, for any reason, you are unable to meet with me on that day, please reach out to me or Ms. Nina, and we will do our best to accommodate you.  I am looking forward to speaking with each of you later this month.

Costume Party  – In observance of Halloween on the 31st, we will be having a costume party on Friday, October 30th.  The children are encouraged to wear their costumes to school that day.  A sign-up sheet will be posted on a clipboard in the lobby next to the tablets for those of you who would like to contribute a healthy snack or sweet treat for the party. J

Wellness

It’s that time of the year again – cold and flu season.  It is our policy that any child who is exhibiting signs of illness (i.e. fever, vomiting, and diarrhea) be excluded from our program until they have been symptom and medication free for at least 24 hours following symptom onset.  In the event that your child begins to show signs of severe illness while at school, we will notify you immediately and kindly ask that you please make arrangements for them to be picked up.  A list of symptoms and illnesses that could potentially qualify your child for exclusion from school will be posted on the parent board for your convenience.  You can help us stop the spread of germs in the classroom by practicing proper handwashing with your child at home, and encouraging your child to cover their mouth and nose when they cough or sneeze.  Thank you for helping us to stop the spread of illness in our classroom.

Daily Requests

As a friendly reminder, your child will need the following on a daily basis:

  • sippy cup or water bottle
  • a healthy snack for morning snack time (9:00AM)
  • blanket for naptime
  • close-toe shoes
  • light jacket or sweatshirt
  • one full change of clothing, including socks (to remain in their cubby, just in case)*

*Please note: I do my best to keep the children clean and dry throughout the day, but there is a learning curve for children throughout the process of practicing self-care and autonomy, and accidents do happen.
