Brown Bears February 2018 Newsletter

Happy February! We have so much to celebrate this month. Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, Chinese New Year, Presidents’ Day, make for a jam-packed month of learning.

Your children began the month learning about shadows, (Groundhog Day) due to the sun and how it affects the earth’s shadows on the moon. They quickly learned the moon’s phases and are always happy to report about shadows on the playground. We were very fortunate to have an eclipse coincide with our lessons.

Our class will use Valentine’s Day to focus on friendship and kindness to all. We will make our own version of “Have You Filled a Bucket Today” book, which revolves around making others happy which in turn makes us feel good too.

Speaking of Valentine’s Day: We will have a valentine exchange. Please have your child start now signing their own name on their Valentine cards, store-bought or homemade. This will give them plenty of practice writing their name. Please only do a few a night so as not to overwhelm them, and keep it fun. DO NOT address the cards, this way your child can easily deliver their cards to each bag. The class will decorate their valentine bags during the school day. The teachers will help them deliver their cards into their friends’ bags. We have 26 children in our class.

There is a sign-up sheet in our classroom if you are able to provide a healthy snack for Valentine Day. Please remember we have a serious nut allergy so double check ingredients before purchasing. Thank You.

We will touch on Mardi Gras the 13th and focus more on Chinese New Year which starts on the 16th.

The 19th is Presidents Day giving us the opportunity to introduce some of our presidents.

We appreciate the fact that you allow your child to share a book with us all. They are so excited about books, this is such an important piece to their learning. The one most important thing you can do to ensure a positive step toward their education is to READ. Snuggling and reading together each night can’t be beaten.

Anyone willing to take our recycling home? Our bin is overfilled. It is a nice opportunity to teach your child about saving our earth, not just at home.

Please label all outside gear and water bottles, we have had multiple mix-ups already. Check your child’s cubby for extra clothes some are very low. On snow boot days please provide indoor shoes for your child’s comfort and to keep our classroom clean and dry.

Thank You for all you do! Please don’t hesitate with any questions or concerns, sunsetacademybrownbears@gmail.com is an easy form of communication.

Remember to laugh lots, love em, hug em, and Read, Read, Read, they grow fast!
