Sunset Academy October 2017 Director’s Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Fall is finally upon us. The leaves on the trees are starting to change color and the temperature is reminding us that winter will soon be here.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Stephani in Koala 2 as an Assistant Teacher, Ms. Kyla in Koala 1 as an Assistant Teacher, and Ms. Cassandra in Teddy’s as a Co-Lead.

We will be having our Fall Festival on Friday, October 27th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Your child’s teachers will have prepared a variety activities in the classroom for this event. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes, however, please note that no weapons with any costumes are allowed. We hope to see you there for fun and games. We are asking parents for donations of treats and small toys for the festival. Please ensure in treats do not contain nuts to be allergy conscious. Thank you in advance for your donations.

With the weather getting cooler, please be sure to provide additional clothing for your child to keep in cubbies for use as needed. Bring a jacket/coat for your child in case they may need it for outdoor time.

Stay tuned for more information regarding fall pictures around the first part of November, this is your early notice. Please let us know if you do not want your child to have their picture taken.

Enrichment News – If you would like to enroll your child in any of our Enrichment Programs, please look at the front desk for sign-up and more information. We offer Spanish, Music Care, Yoga, Amazing Athletes and Stretch and Grow. In addition, we are excited that we are adding Chinese into our Kindergarten Program. This current Chinese program is an 8-week trial run, after which we will decide on a permanent foreign language program in the Kindergarten.

We are looking for a teacher to teach Spanish to our private kindergarten kids.  If all goes well, we will bring the Chinese and Spanish into our Black Bear classroom as part of the regular curriculum, which means the school is paying for the associated costs and parents are not going to pay extra. If you know a qualified teacher who can teach Spanish to young kids, please let us know.

Safety and Security Reminder – For the safety and security of all our students please refrain from holding open or opening the front door for others.  It is common courtesy to hold open the doors for others; however, we are responsible for the security of over 100 children and their families, and we would appreciate any help you can provide.  In addition, we are working to ensure that someone is at the front desk during peak hours.  Please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions regarding the security of the building.

We are initiating a reward program for our teachers.  If you find the teacher in your child’s room did a good job in giving your child a loving start, please write about the teacher on Google, Facebook, and care.com.  The teacher will get a $15 gift card and you will also get a $15 gift card.  Your reviews will be factored in our year-end “Teacher Of The Year” selection.
