Sunset Academy Newsletter for June 2017

Happy June! Happy Summer! Here are a couple of things I want to highlight on:

Graduation Ceremony

Congratulations to our 2017 Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten graduates.

We are looking forward to our Graduation ceremony coming up June 16th at Best Western Convention Center in Longmont.

Remember to arrive by 6:00pm so we can have the children ready to walk down the aisle by 6:30pm.

I’m excited to talk to each child and see what they want to be when they grow up.

It will be a hard day for me as I had many of the students in my classroom in Koalas.

Time moves fast and I wish there was a way to slow it down. Please continue to make and share memories with friends and family.

Rose Garden for the Graduating Class

In regards to this, Sunset Academy would like to start a garden for all of our graduating children. It will be located at the front of our building by the hill. We would like to recognize all of our students both present and past with roses and plaques of graduating years. We are looking for parent volunteers to help in this matter. Also, we are looking for donations to help cover the cost of this. It would be a great way to remember all of our students.

Help Needed for State Food Program

I have passed out a letter the week of May 22nd asking for help with our food program. Parents only need to fill out if they qualify. Qualification is based on income and family size. Please return to management as soon as possible.

In the mean time, we are doing our meals according to the state food program requirements. I do hope that you are seeing a change in our meals and snacks. We have started with fresh fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains. No hot dogs or chicken nuggets are on the current menu! The children are enjoying the new foods.  If you have any easy ideas for snacks or meals please let management or Ms. Jolene know.

The fund is the state is crucial for us as it will not only sustain our new and improved menu but also free up fund to upgrade our equipment.  For example, the three vans we use to transport our students around were made in 1993, 1997, and 1999.  While they are safe to drive, I think our students deserve something newer and better.

Enhancement Services

Children’s class pictures and graduation pictures were taken May 22 and 23. If you haven’t purchased a copy please let management know.

Sunset Academy offers services such as class and individual pictures, music, spanish, sports and yoga lessons as enhancement services.  The school has so far taken no commissions from the service providers. We think this kind of services enhance our educational value and while a policy of whether to charge a commission is still being decided, we would like to encourage our parents to sign up for these enhancements when being offered.

One of current enhancements is the Yoga classes offered by Ms. Pamela Daniels. Pam is sending two kids to attend Sunset Academy so she is very much part of the big Sunset Family. Her Yoga class is called “Little Belly Breaths”, her summer classes just get started and slots are still available. You can reach Pam via email, or find out more about here classes on her website:

A few students are leaving us for the Summer as they are off to Kindergarten or family vacations. You will all be missed very much. Please remember to stop by and see us. We love you and hope the best in all your adventures.

We also sadly say goodbye to Ms. Cortney! She is moving to Florida. Even in an industry that everyone tends to love kids, Cortney is outstanding. Her love for kids is so visible as she knows the name of almost every kid in the center. We certainly wish her the best of luck on her new adventure and we will all miss her.

I appreciate all that you do for our center. It is a privilege every day to care for your children. If you need anything, my door is always open.
