August Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Happy August

As you can tell our playgrounds have been backed up once again due to materials being on back order. We have been working with the construction company to get this done this month. Cross your fingers. We can’t wait for this transition to be over. I know the kids are excited to be able to use the new playground equipment. Lets hope its done before the first snow. :/

The older classrooms have been working with an online program called ABC mouse. The kids think they’re having fun but they’re really doing life long learning

ABC Mouse is a preschool and kindergarten online learning program. The site  allows parents and teachers to  chooses a learning path that includes math, reading, the world around us, and art and music. This is a fun way to get children ready for kindergarten. This offers students opportunities to make sense of the world and take charge of their learning,

I have attached the website address if you are interested in checking it our.

Miss Kim has a few other reading website that she will be using for Kindergarten. If you are interested in the information please let Ms. Kim know.

Cub Bears
Ms. Lauren and Ms. Krista

Happy August. Time is moving fast and our little Cubs are not so little anymore.

We will be watching for our little ones to be developed enough to transition to our Teddy classroom. This includes scooting, and sitting up.

It will be a sad time for us but is wonderful to see the children become little people.

I would like to welcome Dylan and Sophia to our room. We are excited to spend time with new friends and families.

As the summer winds down I will be trying new sensory things with the cubs. We wil be working with different textures and how things feel. Most of our cubs are on solid foods. Its fun to see them try out new flavors and textures.

We are still working on a parent wall. If you have not brought in a family picture please do so.

Any question or concerns please stop by or call.

Happy August

Hard to believe that summer is almost over and school is right around the corner. Hope everyone has had a fun adventurous summer!

Koalas have been working a lot with stacking cup. They are learning how we can stack them many different ways. It’s fun to see them make towers, pyramids and to group by size.  The kids love knocking the towers over. They giggle and clap when this happens and then start all over.

These are all thing that will help them development into excited young learners.

Fisher, Addison and Fiona are all moving over to be big Koala Twos. They will be missed. We are excited to have Lukas, Linzlee and Cayden move over from Teddys.

Watch out for themes in the classroom related to Back to School and ALL about ME.

Dear Panda One Families,

We hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth of July weekend!

Please pardon our dust as we (hopefully) begin construction on the new playground this month.  Due to circumstances beyond our control (i.e. a shortage of product availability, and multiple shipping delays) we have yet to break ground on the installation of the new turf for our playground.  The supplier has ensured us that the product is scheduled to ship on Wednesday, July 28th.  Provided everything goes according to plan, tear down for installation will begin the following week, on Wednesday, August 5th.  The new playground structure is already on site, and it will be installed as soon as the new turf is set.

Magic Magnets (exploring magnetism)
Animal Habitats (sorting and classification)
Animal Cracker Counting (counting and number recognition)

Brown Bears

Ms. Diane, Ms. Vanessa, Ms. Romina and Ms. Leslie

Wow, this school year has flown by fast! We have really enjoyed watching the amazing growth of your children and their proud independence they have accomplished. We want to thank all the parents for their support and helpfulness daily and with our special requests during class parties.

The children will continue practicing their name, going over letter, number, shape, and color recognition, during circle time and centers. They are enthusiastically catching on to reading word families. Reading and music are still favorite activities.

We love seeing the friendships blossom as they show kindness to each other and realize they have similar interests. This is such and exciting time to be apart of their lives. We appreciate you letting us be involved in their guidance. It is always sad to say goodbye, but we are looking forward to chats and Black Bear hugs in the hallway. Thank You for a wonderful year!

 Lotsa love,

The Brown Bear Teachers

 Black Bears
Ms. Kim, Ms. Maddy and  Ms. Emery   This month we’ll be helping our current black bears finish getting prepared for kindergarten and finishing out our year. We enjoyed having all of the kids and will miss them very much, but we know they’ll be moving on to becoming great additions to our society. Some of you we will still see in our kindergarten with miss Kim, and others we wish you the best out there! As for the new group of black bears coming over, we are exited to welcome them into our class. For the first few weeks we’ll be focusing on getting the kids used to a new schedule and the new classroom. I’ll also be using this time to see were everyone is at academically, to see were we need to start and what we need to focus on throughout the year.

There are some important things that our new parents should know. In black bears we are the first class to go outside in the mornings so we do ask that the kids come with sunscreen already on. A water bottle is a good thing to make sure the kids have in class, but we would greatly appreciate it if they are taken home every Friday to be cleaned and prevent the spread of germs and keep our kids healthy. Also we do have a show and share every Friday, which is a chance for the kids to bring something about our theme of the week to present to the class. We can’t wait to have our new black bears, and look forward to another great year!

Grizzly Bears
Ms. Leewitt, Ms. Melissa, Ms. Nikki, Ms. Becca and Ms. KennedyWelcome to August Grizzly Families,

Summer camp has been a wonderful adventure. We’re sad to see it coming to an end. We hope to see many of you and your children in the before and after school program with Sunset Academy. Please see a Grizzly Teacher or the front office for Van Transportation Forms. We need them filled out soon to prepare the various van runs.

We also plan to have a school wide Car Seat Safety Check on August 5th from 3-5:45, hosted by our own Ms. Leewitt, Child Passenger Safety Technician. She will be bringing in other CPST personnel to help in the safety checks. Please sign up, if interested, on the sign-up sheet by the Grizzly Classroom.

A few more dates of importance this month:

Aug. 17 at 6:00 to 6:30 Meet the Teachers night

Aug. 18 Flagstaff & Twin Peaks first day of school

Aug. 19 SVVSD first day of school & Sunset Academy’s Private Kindergarten

We do have a nut allergy in the classroom so please continue to avoid peanuts or other nuts in the lunches or snacks.

We would like to thank the many families that have taken advantage of the alternative spreads. The list is still viewable in July’s Newsletter. Let’s help keep our kids safe.

Just because summer is winding down for the kids doesn’t mean the fun has to end. We still have several adventurous field trips planned & STEM activities in the classroom. In July we made hula hoops and built pirate ships. This month we will learn about boomerangs; the technology behind what makes the Wild Animal Sancutary such a great place for the animals to continue to be wild. There will also be an informative and fun way to teach how mummies are made.

Our themes for the remainder of Summer Camp are:

  • Down Under Week
  • Nature’s Wild Side
  • Wrapping It Up Egyptian Style
  • Back To School Week

We then Transition into our Before & After School Calendars with the first Theme:

  • All About Me

Our announcement board to the right of the classroom door gives us more room for quick reminders of field trips and activities each week. It is also the place to find important updates that didn’t make the newsletter.

Calendars of our activities for this month are available upon request. We recommend getting a copy of the calendar for home reference of important items needed during the month & to help families plan ahead. Please ask a Grizzly teacher for a copy.

Thank you for joining in the fun at Sunset Academy.

*Please Note: We have a peanut and berry allergy in our room, so please pack food items without peanuts for lunches and snacks.
