July Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Happy July!

The weather is getting hot and the kids are having so much fun outside during splash days.

Thank you for dealing will our construction mess over the past few weeks. The playgrounds are almost done and looking great. Our infants finally have a place to be outside. We were able to pick up a few riding toys and new play structures for our kiddos. Its fun to see the big kids imiginations when playing with our new lemonade stand. Anyone for a mud pie and juice? Very yummy!

Stop by and check out the kids organic garden. We have already had an over abundance of lettuce,  spinach and broccoli. The kids have had some delicious salads because of it. The kids cant wait to dig up the potatoes and harvest the peas and tomatoes.

July 3rd at 3:00pm we will be hosting our annual 4th of July picnic held in our  field. Please stop by if you can for food, fun and prizes. We will have a face painter and a snow cone machine.  The kids are all very excited for this. Please bring in the kids swimsuits and towels as we will have water activities, slip and slides and a blow up water slide. If you would also bring a chair or blanket to sit on for comfort. The kids enjoy this day and  it may take a bit of effort to get them to go home. Weather permitting we will also opening the field to the fireworks show on July 4th. Plan on coming early to get a good spot. BYOB…

Bring your own blanket and/or chairs. The field will be open by 8:30pm. You make park in our parking lot and enjoy the fire works in a gated area with your kids.As hard as it is to say, next month starts school again. We will have van sign up sheets beginning the third week of July. Please sign up if your child needs a bus ride to school. Sign up sheets will be available at the front desk.

Also I have two spots left for our Kindergarten program. Please stop by and see Rachel or me to sign up. Miss. Kim has an awesome program set up with fun and learning. The kids will take trips to the local library and have many other exciting adventures along the way.

Last but not least remember that payments are due by Wednesdays of each month. A change has come down from our owner that the most you can pay up front is two weeks in advance. This keeps credit balances from becoming to large. I appreciate all your help in this matter.

Thank you for all that you do.

Panda One’s

Dear Panda One Families,We hope all of the fathers had a happy Father’s Day last month!  It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through the year.  Where does the time go?  With temperatures rising, and daily thundershowers becoming a thing of the past, summer is finally in full swing; and we are looking forward to all of the outdoor activities and events that we have planned for this year’s warm-weather season. On that note, you’re invited to Sunset Academy’s Annual Fourth of July Picnic!  The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 03, 2015 from 3:00pm-6:00pm.  Bring your friends and family for face-painting, water play, games, prizes, snow cones, and food!  We hope to see you there.

As some of you may have noticed, our playground is under construction.  The playhouse has been re-homed, a new gate providing direct access to the field has been installed, and we are in the process of removing all of the pea gravel and rubber mulch from the site.  We will be installing a brand new play structure atop a level, pourable, play surface.  In addition, a raised planter for gardening; a mobile, hanging art easel; a free-standing, four-person, metal race car; and several new trikes have already arrived.  While the playground undergoes this exciting transformation, the children will be utilizing the field for outdoor activities such as morning and afternoon recess, as well as for Splash Day on Fridays.

Due to time constraints, we do not apply sunscreen to the children before going outside in the mornings; therefore, we encourage families to apply sunscreen to their child(ren) before dropping them off at school.  If you have provided the classroom with a bottle of sunscreen for your child, we will reapply it in the afternoons before going outside.  Also, we ask that all families please provide the following items for their child on Fridays for Splash Day:

swimsuit
water shoes
towel
(sunglasses and sun hats are also recommended)

A new teacher, Miss MaryJane, will be joining our team this month; she will be assisting in the both the Panda One and Panda Two classrooms from 9:00am-6:00pm, Monday throughFriday.  MaryJane holds an associates degree in Early Childhood Education, she is certified in Montessori, and she is fluent in English and Spanish.  She has been working with children for over 20 years, and she has raised three children of her own.  Furthermore, she is the proud grandmother of six grandchildren. When she is not teaching in the classroom, she enjoys doing crossword puzzles and spending time in the mountains.  Feel free to introduce yourselves and help us welcome MaryJane to the Sunset Academy family!

Curriculum themes for the month of July will include: Stars and Stripes; Vacations; Sports; Bubbles; and Puppets/Children’s Choice.

Monday, July 13th will begin the week-long transition for Nora, Adella, and Adrik, who will be movin’ on up to Panda Two.  In their place we will be welcoming Lachlan, Noah, and Violet from Koala Two.  A transition schedule is posted on the bulletin board for your reference. Congratulations on your graduation friends!  We are very proud of you, and you will be missed!

Happy Summer! We are looking forward to enjoying summertime weather and themes. We will discuss America’s birthday and the Flag, vacations, the importance of exercise during sports week, and the science of bubbles. The class will continue learning about letter sounds and recognition including number recognition during centers.

The children are really enjoying the new STEM manipulatives we received with the grant money. The projector is helping create teamwork as we work through ABC Mouse, and relax watching animated stories. “Pete the Cat” is our favorite so far.

Every Thursday is Splash Day @ 10:00. Thank You for remembering all their gear. Nothing better than watching them laugh and run in the spray.

 Welcome to July Grizzly Families,

So far summer camp has been a wild and crazy adventure. We’re sure many stories have come home telling you all about the fun & excitement of our field trips & in classroom activities from your kiddoes. Your kids got to participate in a live theater production and make wizard wands; see live bugs at the Butterfly Pavilion; swim in a reservoir and see a carnivorous plant; make cool 3-D cards for father’s day, touch a crawdad; roller-skate and climb rocks. Listening to them talk to each other about their favorite or grossest parts of their day is always a thrill for us. It is wonderful to see the enthusiasm in their eyes & desire to return every day.

July also brings the heat. We would like to thank our Grizzly families for providing a water bottle and sunscreen for each kid. We would also recommend a sun hat for those kids that are willing to wear them. We have been known to wet a hat with water to help cool off our young friends. We like to keep the kids cool, hydrated and burn free.

We do have a nut allergy in the classroom so please no peanuts or other nuts in the lunches or snacks.

Some alternatives for Peanut butter spreads are:

  • Sunflower Butter,
  • Sesame Seed (Tahini),
  • Wow Butter Soybutter,
  • and Lotus Biscoff European Cookie Spread.

Each have their own unique flavor for those choosy eaters. If you choose to use one of these please label “PB ALT.” on the container to avoid any confusion with real nut products. Please ask teachers if you have any concerns about foods brought in the classroom. Let’s help keep our kids safe.

We have a new announcement board to the right of the classroom door. This board will help with reminders of field trips and activites each week and also important updates that didn’t make the newsletter.

Our themes this month are:

  • Luau Week / Independence Day
  • Shark Week
  • Reaching For the Stars
  • Pirate Week
  • Down Under Week

Calendars of our activities for this month are available upon request. We recommend getting a copy of the calendar to see important items needed during the month & to help families plan ahead. Please ask a Grizzly teacher for a copy.

We would like to thank the families that have brought in the colorful/patterned rolls of Duct tape. We look forward to seeing the finished hula hoop projects and sharing them during the Sunset Academy Independence Day Party Friday July 3rd 3-6 PM. Please bring friends and family to join in the fun. We will have games and refreshments available.

Thank you for being part of the Sunset Academy’s Summer Camp.

*Please Note: We have a peanut and berry allergy in our room, so please pack food items without peanuts for lunches and snacks.
