June Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Welcome June and hopefully nicer weather! I can’t believe how quickly this year is passing by. We are already into the Summer months. Sunset has gotten very busy. Summer camp has started and fieldtrips and splash days have begun.
If you been to the field you will notice we have begun the garden. The kids are really excited to see the new growth popping up.  We are still looking for a name to give to our garden. Please stop by and let your teachers know if you have a suggestion  for the garden.  The older children will be painting pots for us to place around the gazebo. The children will then choose what to plant in them as the warmer months approach
I wanted to think everyone for coming to our pre-school graduation. Things went very well and I was a bit choked up seeing some of my old cubs and teddies graduate pre- school.

Thank you again for allowing me to be part of your families in some small way.  These little memories mean a lot to the teachers and myself. I can’t wait to see what our Black bears have in store for us when they grow up. If I remember correctly from graduation, we will be safe from harm, have many princesses and have the best football team in the country.

The S.T.E.M program is up and running at Sunset. I’m excited to hear the children talk about the new things they have played and learned with. Look around and you will see light tables, projectors, white boards, new rugs and computers in the classrooms. We have started using ABC mouse in the pre- school classrooms. Ask teachers for more information on how ABC mouse is used with learning.  More things are soon to come including a revamp of the toddlers play grounds.

With the ups and down in changing weather our kiddos have been getting sick. Please remember if your child has a fever over 101 and or vomiting keep them out of school until their symptoms clear up. This will hopefully cut down on illiness in our center. I do ask that you wash your hands when entering classrooms.
As June hit we remember our fathers and want to wish them all a happy Father’s Day. Thank you for all that you do.
Please let myself or Rachel know if you will be taking any time off during the summer. We would love to make sure you get your earned vacation time. Remember that it is the overall amount that you pay throughout the year as your discount.
Thank you for all you do.

Parents:
Lots of changes in our room are going on and there are more to come. We have begun pre pairing for the  S.T.E.M program in our classroom. We have new toys, radio and will be getting fancy new light covers.
This month we will be focusing on families, mommy’s, daddy’s, siblings and grandparents.  Please bring in family photos to add to our wall. Hopefully we can get some outside time and  be able to take walks in the sunshine.
Thank you for always trusting us with your children.

Panda One’s

Dear Panda Families,

We hope all of the mothers had a happy Mother’s Day last month, and we would like to wish all of the fathers a Happy Father’s Day on June 21st!

Rain, rain, go away…  Summer is here, and after a month of rainfall and dreary weather, I think it is safe to say, most of us are ready for some sunshine and blue skies!  As we transition into the warm-weather season, we will be spending more time outdoors and taking advantage of every opportunity to bring the classroom out of the building.  In an effort to to help the children stay protected from the sun’s harmful rays, we ask that  you please apply sunscreen to your child before dropping them off at school in the morning.  We also request that you please provide a bottle of sunscreen to leave in the classroom so that we may reapply it to your child in the afternoons before we go outside.  Sun hats and sunglasses are also recommended.

Upcoming Events:

The Panda classrooms will begin hosting Summer Splash Days on Friday mornings as soon as the weather permits.*  To ensure that your child is outfitted to enjoy outdoor water play, we ask that you please provide the following:

– swimsuit
– water shoes
– towel

*Please stay tuned for the official start date.

Last month, Miss Meghan accepted a full-time position with another employer.  As a result, she will no longer be assisting in the Panda One classroom here at Sunset Academy.  We wish her all of the best in her future endeavors; she will be missed!  In her place, a new teacher, Miss Sara, has joined our team.  Sara will be assisting in both the Panda One and Panda Two classrooms from 9:00am-6:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  Please join us in welcoming Sara to Sunset Academy.

The month of June will be host to not one, but two, graduation transitions.  The first transition is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 8th, when our friend Amelia will start her move to the Panda Two classroom.  The second transition will take place two weeks later, over the week of June 22, during which several of Amelia’s friends will be joining her in Panda Two.  We will also be welcoming a former friend, April, back to Sunset Academy.  Congratulations to all of our friends on their upcoming graduations!  We are very proud of you!!!

June curriculum themes will include: The Great Outdoors; Summer Fun; Father’s Day; and Popcorn, Watermelon, and Ice Cream.  Weather permitting, we will spend much of the first week of the month outside exploring the great outdoors.  We will take the children on a nature walk around the property, and take up a collection of objects we find outside. Then, the children will craft a nature collage from the things they collected.  Week two is all about summer and the fun-in-the-sun opportunities that the warm-weather season brings.  The children will decorate their own beach ball, watch as it is inflated, and then take it out to the field to throw, kick, bounce, and play with. The third week is all about Dad as we gear up for Father’s Day on the 21st.  We will spend the week celebrating fathers, and each child will craft a special gift just for Dad.  During the last week of the month we will indulge our senses with a few summertime snacks: popcorn, watermelon, and ice cream.  From science and math, to sensory play and art, we will explore the nature of these tasty treats (and maybe do a little taste-testing as well).  Yum!  🙂

Important Dates:

June 8-12: Transition 1
June 15: Welcome back, April!
June 14: Flag Day
June 18: International Picnic Day
June 21: Fathers Day/Summer Solstice
June 22-26: Transition 2
**Please let us know if you will be going on vacation; it helps us with our daily planning.  Thank you!

As always, we would like to thank you for your continued and support – we couldn’t do it without you!  Should you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak with one of us.

Until next month…take care!
Sincerely,

Miss Becka, Miss Sara and Miss Jessica

Happy Father’s Day to all of our amazing Dads!

A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love shows us the way.

June is in the air!!! Let’s wish for some nice sunny weather this month!

Once the weather starts to warm up we will have splash day on Friday’s!

We’ll need to have water shoes, bathing suits & a towel.

Please Remember

Make sure your child(ren) has at least two extra changes of clothes in their cubby including socks & underwear.

If your child has had a potty accident please make sure to pick up their dirty clothes from under the sink, if they stay under there too long they tend to smell pretty yucky.

Make sure all cups & blankets are being taken home on Friday’s so they can be washed over the weekend.

Happy June! It is going to be a month of all things summer, and hoping the weather cooperates as well.

Our classroom will continue our focus on learning through play as we sneak in academics during the busy summer months while continuing to have fun. We want your children to be ready to be Black Bears and have a smooth transition in August. There is plenty of learning happening even when we spend more time outside. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math are everywhere! Building social skills is also a lifelong all important skill we continue to focus on daily. So remember even though we look like we are just playing a great amount of learning and growing is happening. Your children are amazing and so enjoyable to spend our days with the time together is flying by. We have to hug them and love them while we can.

The Brown Bear Teachers would like to wish all of the Dad’s and Father figures out there a wonderful Father’s Day! Thank you for all you do! Enjoy your time making memories!

 Thank you,
Brown Bear Teachers

Happy June!

We had so much fun at graduation! The kids worked so hard and did such a great job. Thank you so much for all of your support! We had a request for a copy of a video from graduation. If anyone has a copy or would like a copy of a video, please see Miss Kim.
In June, we hope to start splash days as soon as the summer weather decides to show up. For splash days, we ask that all children come to school wearing their swim suits and sunscreen. Water shoes are much appreciated. We also ask that children bring a towel and a change of clothes. Because of the extra exertion of splash days, we will take a nap on these days. We will send home a note when the weather allows us to begin!
Thank you for such a great year and we look forward to a fun summer!

Happy Summer Grizzly Families,

Summer camp is in full swing for Sunset Academy with field trips and lots of fun learning. We try our best to give a bunch of information in the newsletters and classroom calendars to help families and our summer campers continue to have the best experiences with us. June is no exception with all of the field trips and activities we have planned.

We offer an AM snack each day of camp but please remember to have lunches and afternoon snacks packed for your kid(s) every day for Summer Camp.

We do have a nut allergy in the classroom so please no peanuts or other nuts in the lunches or snacks.

Some alternatives for Peanut butter spreads are:

  • Sunflower Butter,
  • Sesame Seed (Tahini),
  • Wow butter Soybutter,
  • and Lotus Biscoff European Cookie Spread.

Each have their own unique flavor for those choosy eaters. Please ask teachers if you have any concerns about foods for bringing in the classroom. Let’s help keep our kids safe.

Speaking of safety, the weather is getting sunnier and hotter. We would like to remind families that the kids spend more time outside and away during field trips. Please provide for each kid:

  • A refillable, leak proof water bottle.
  • SunscreenWe like to keep the kids hydrated and burn free.   It is important to have one for each kid, as some may be on a field trip and others in the classroom, and we want supplies where the child is located.

Our themes this month are:

  • Theater/ Wizard Week
  • Creepy Crawly Week
  • Camping / Father’s Day
  • Rock’n’Roll Week
  • Luau Week / Independence Day

Calendars of our activities for this month are available upon request. We have 2 field trips and 3 in classroom days planned out each group, Bigs and Littles, during each week of Summer Camp. We will also let you know which group your kid(s) will be in to help you plan for the summer. We recommend getting a copy of the calendar to see important items needed during the month. Please ask a Grizzly teacher for a copy.

We have a lot of arts and crafts though out the month and could use a little help on one of them. We are requesting families supply one Colorful/patterned roll of Duct tape per child by June 26th. It will be used for the hula hoop project the following week.

Thank you for joining us as we head out for a summer full of adventure with Sunset Academy’s Summer Camp.

*Please Note: We have a peanut and berry allergy in our room, so please pack food items without peanuts for lunches and snacks.
