March Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Happy March! Spring is almost here. March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day. It would be fun to have all the children were something green for St. Patrick’s Day. I bet the little green Leprechaun will be stopping by the center to partake in some good children’s fun.
John from A Moment in Time Photography will be at the center on March 11th to do class pictures. Please make sure your child is at the center by 10:00am. I would love to get all the children photographed. It a great way to remember your child’s/children’s friends and teachers.

This month is national reading month.Thank you all for your support in getting us gently used books for the center. Mrs. Helen has been working on getting the children more books on CD’s and hard covered books by Dr. Seuss and Charles Reasoner. It is so amazing to see your little ones eyes light up when they are reading and learning. Thank you for making this a success for us at Sunset.

The Pre-school classrooms will begin implementing a video projector in their classrooms. Teachers will have the opportunity to hook up their iPod, i Pad or computer to this device and show material on a large white board.  This is a  fun and exciting way to have children become interested in group lessons.  Children are able to point to items on the screen and interact with other students and teachers. This will bring the S.T.E.M. program to a higher educational level at Sunset.

Kindergarten is up and running at Sunset Academy for the 2015 -2016 school year. Miss Kim and I are excited for this adventure. We offer a full time Kindergarten program as well as a half day to fit your child’s  needs. It is an amazing opportunity to have children learn in a smaller peer environment. Children pick up material quickly and have more hands on learning time. The best part for parents is not having to drive back and forth to different schools. The children are covered for all non school days and breaks as well.  The Kindergarten class is filling up quickly. There are only a few spots left. Please stop by to see  Miss Kristy,  Miss Kim or Miss Rachel for pricing.
Its hard to believe that Summer will be here shortly. The Grizzly teachers should have handed out a Summer Camp registration form.
Please fill it out quickly and return it to Miss Kristy,  Miss Kim or Miss Rachel.
Thank you to all the families that have filled out paperwork on the Measles vaccinations. I appreciate the quick response in making sure your child/ children have been vaccinated. This helps to ensure a healthy and safe environment for our children, families and our teachers.
I have enjoyed my first few months as director. It is great to work with such wonderful families and staff.
If I can be of help in any way please let me know.
Thank You,
 Miss Kristy

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Don’t forget to wear your green.
This month we will be transitioning from individual baby wipes to community wipes. It will take us all time to get the hang of it but, we are confident it will all go well.
Please stop by and speak with Michelle or Krista if you are in need of a new baby schedule. We want to make sure we have everything we need to care for your little one properly.
Speaking of transitions we have missed our Cubs who have moved up to teddies, Rylan, Lucas, and Gus! We know they are having a blast in their new class.
We are happy to welcome Weston to our class, we look forward to playing and learning with him.
Krista recently took a nutrition and movement class with Boulder County Health. It was very interesting and informative. Several CD’s and toys were given to the center to start incorporating into our classroom. So far the kids have had a great response and seem to be enjoying the new music, scarves, and balls.
If you have any questions or concerns about anything in the cubs room, we are always available.
Thank you for trusting us with your infants.
Stay safe and warm and hope the snow is behind us!

With the daylight hours growing longer each day, Springtime is just around the corner. We are not in the clear yet, however, as March can be one of the coldest and wettest months of the year in Colorado. With that in mind, we ask that you please provide your child with season appropriate apparel (i.e. hats, gloves, long sleeve shirts, snow pants, and snow boots) as we will be taking advantage of every opportunity to go outside and enjoy the fresh air.
This month’s themes will include: Dr. Seuss, Under the Big Top, St. Patrick’s Day, Spring, and Easter. We will also be focusing on the colors blue, yellow, and green. We will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 02; create a classroom circus; explore the magical lore of leprechauns and shamrocks; plant seeds; experiment with color mixing; and learn about eggs.
Class group portraits are scheduled for Wednesday, March 11. Please check your child’s cubby for an order form and envelope.
Last month, we bid adieu to Sonja, Walker, and Lila as they made the move to Panda Two. In their place, we welcomed Aden, Nicholas, and Adrik from Koala Two. Congratulations on your graduation, friends! We are very proud of you.
Beginning on Monday, March 02, a new teacher, Miss Jessica, will be joining us in the Panda One classroom. Please feel free to introduce yourself and help her feel welcome.
Once again, we would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued feedback and support. It is both an honor and a privilege for us to share in the growth and development of your child, and to be a part of such an important part of your lives. Should you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns please do not hesitate to speak with one of us.
Until next month…take care!
Sincerely,
Miss Becka, Miss Meghan and Miss Jessica

March is reading month! We will be kicking off our reading challenge by celebrating Dr. Seuss. His birthday is March 2 and his books are the gateway to reading. Rhyming is an important skill for reading, spelling and writing! Plus his books are just plain fun and any child having fun with a book will acquire a lifetime love of reading.

The Brown Bears will combine with the Black Bears to enjoy 3 days of Seuss-ically educational activities, starting March 2.

These activities will cover,

Language Arts: musical rhyming game,

Math: roll the dice to fish for fish,

Science: fun with oobleck,

Art: Thing 1 and Thing 2 headbands,

Healthy creative snacking combined with fine motor and patterning skills: build a Cat in the Hat (a grape as the cat, sliced strawberries and bananas as the hat), Autonomy and team building: dress-up relay.

Our reading challenge will be to read 150 books during the month of March if achieved we will have a movie, popcorn, PJ day! Stay tuned the children will be surprised at how many we actually read monthly…

The Brown Bear Teachers are proud to see the love of learning that has grown in your child and will continue to foster their eagerness because;

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go. ~Dr. Seuss

Thank you,

Happy March! Monday, March 2nd, is Dr. Seuss’s birthday and National Read Across America Day. We will join the Brown Bears in a three day celebration for this beloved author. We will play games, do a craft, have a special snack, and in true Dr. Seuss fashion, be silly.

After our seuss-tastical celebration, we will spend the rest of March learning about the sea, St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter. We will continue learning new sight words each week and learning about word families and rhyming words. in math, we will continue learning number recognition and addition.

The kids have been working so hard and learning a lot! we are hoping to earn our second popcorn party sometime this month!

Thank you for such wonderful children!

Grizzly Parents and Families,

February was a fun filled month. We would like to thank those parents and families who helped with refreshments for the Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year’s Day parties for their generosity. Through your contributions the children really got to enjoy a variety of items to eat, sparkling apple juice and special plates for the occasions. We really enjoyed watching the children learn how to use chopsticks and their expressions as they ate goat cheese and tried the sparkling apple juice. We are also grateful the weather and daylight held out so we could let them burn off some of the extra sugar before parents picked them up.

March is going to be quite busy for all of us.   It has a couple “No School” days and a “Late Start” and an “Early Release” day early in the month.   As these days get closer we will post them outside the Grizzly room on the Theme Board. Grizzly Teachers will be approaching parents and families to ask about attending these days.

Please remember to have snacks and lunches packed for your kiddo on “No School” & “Early Release” days.

On top of the odd school days Grizzly Teachers will be asking you to fill in the Spring Break sign-up sheet by March 20th.  We will also be keeping an eye out to see who we will have joining us as the Summer Camp registration forms, which are due by April 20th, get turned in to Grizzly teachers or the front desk. For Spring Break we schedule staff according to the number of children signed IN and Summer Camp has limited spaces that fill up fast, so please sign-up and register early.

Our themes this month are:

  • Story book (we will be creating a story book as a class)
  • Under the Big Top
  • St. Patrick’s Day
  • Spring
  • and Easter

Calendars of our activities for this month are available upon request.  Please ask a Grizzly teacher for a copy.

We appreciate the opportunity to watch, learn & play with your kids as they continue to grow.

*Please Note: We have a peanut and berry allergy in our room, so please pack food items without peanuts for lunches and snacks.
