February Newsletter

Directors note:

February is already here. Time is moving fast. The children are growing by leaps and bounds. Please look at your child’s classroom bulletin boards for upcoming events.

Please look around the center and you will notice a few new educational items for the classrooms.

We have purchased a listening center for the older classrooms to use. This center will have books on Cd’s including titles by Dr. Suess and Dean Litwin, author of  Pete the Cat. Teachers will begin using this in their classrooms this month.

March is National Reading Month. Reading is so important in early learning. Its proven that literacy skills begin at birth.  Reading promotes, alphabet knowledge, phonic awareness, and academic excellence. Reading with your child can also be a bonding experience. On this note, we are in need of gently used books for all of our classrooms. Please drop off with Ms. Rachel if you can.

Jeff from Lil’ Angels photography will be here February 17-19. He will dress the children up in different dress up outfits. No need to sign up. If you do not want your child to be photographed please let your teacher know.

This month we will begin putting monthly statements in your child’s cubby. A-J will be the beginning of the month and K-Z at the end of the month. Please let me know if you do not receive one.

If you have not done so already, please sign up to pick up your 2014 tax statement.

Last but not least, our kids and families are precious. Please slow down and watch out for our children in the parking lot.

My door is always open.

Happy February! Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! We will have a class party and the kids can bring in Valentines for their friends is they wish to do so. We will hang a folder on the classroom door with a class list if you would like a copy. Please also look for a sign-up to bring snacks for the party.

In February, we will learn about Groundhogs Day/ Day and Night, Valentine’s Day/ Friendship, Chinese New Year, and Dr. Seuss. Through these themes we will continue developing phonemic awareness by isolating sounds in words and determining the beginning, middle, and end sounds. We will also continue learning our sight words each week. It has been a lot of fun hearing the kids singing the different sight word songs throughout the day.

We have also enjoyed seeing their excitement about the homework. They are such a delight to work with each day!
